Overview
Hanhilampi Lean-to Shelter is a scenic and easily accessible fishing destination, ideal for families and short fishing trips. The site is located on the ridge between Kirveslampi and Ylimmäinen Alanne, making it easy to reach on foot. A campfire site for grilling is situated between Hanhilampi and Ylimmäinen Alanne.
The trail forms part of the Jämäsvaara Hiking Trail, which offers beautiful scenery, interesting natural features and several excellent fishing spots. The main target species are pike, perch and roach.
Fishing permits and regulations
Fishing is best done with a spinning rod or a simple worm rod.
- A Finnish fisheries management fee is required when fishing with a rod and reel.
- Traditional hook-and-line fishing and ice fishing are free of charge.
- There are no catch restrictions for lake fish species.
Equipment
Standard hiking gear and fishing equipment are recommended. Waterproof footwear is advisable for shoreline fishing.
The lean-to shelter can also be reached by larger vehicles, making it easy to bring a kayak or packraft for fishing.
Getting there
From Kuhmo town centre, follow the road towards Nurmes and turn onto Jämäsjärventie (the farther junction). Continue along the gravel road until you reach the road leading to the gravel pit on the left. The scenic trail to the Hanhilampi campfire site begins on the right-hand side of Jämäsjärventie.
