Tuupala Museum

The courtyard of Tuupala House in the middle of Kuhmo’s center has remained as an enclosed oasis of nature in the heart of Kuhmo city. Tuupala Museum was opened in June 1975.

The house museum showcases the everyday life of the house and its residents from the late 1880s until the 1960s. The house was inhabited until the early 1970s. There have been various activities in the house from which the owner earned rental income.

In the main building, you can explore the everyday life of the Kainulainen gentry, a shop, an inn, and the maids’ kingdom in the kitchen. In the outbuilding, you’ll find an old-fashioned post office with all its rooms, including the postmaster’s chamber. At the pharmacy, you can explore, among other things, the tools used to prepare medicines. In the small cottage, you’ll see the milkmaid’s chamber and the living room used by the farmhands during the winter season.

In the courtyard, there is a beautiful garden with larch trees, a graveyard for dogs, a porridge bell at the end of the courtyard shed, and a tar boat with barrels.

On the children’s porch, kids can try out various fun activities, such as grinding coffee beans and playing with pine cones. During the summer, the museum hosts several event days.
