Kuhmo’s coastal path

The Coastal Path guides you to the main cultural sites in the center of Kuhmo. Along the route, you wander through the beautiful landscapes of Lammasjärvi and Pajakkakoski, as well as the streets of the city center.

Kuhmo’s coastal path is a popular walking route among locals and tourists alike. The route starts from in front of Kuhmo House, continuing behind the former Kontio School towards the shore of Lammasjärvi, heading towards Pajakkakoski. Right near the waterfall is an architecturally significant library building, which also serves as a tourist information center. The waterfall can be admired by walking on stone and wooden walkways. You can include a visit to the beautiful Ikola rectory, where a short bird forest path has been created. From Pajakkakoski, the return to the city center is through the Tuupala area and the museum, along Kontionkatu. On Kontionkatu, you will find Juminkeko and the Chamber Music Center, which has a café and restaurant during the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival. After the city center, the route detours to the charming old cemetery on the shore of Lammasjärvi before returning to the starting point at Kuhmo House.

You can enjoy your own picnic by the waterfront or in parks, but there are also many good cafes and lunch spots along the route.
