Cafés

The heart of Kuhmo beats in the Kaesan Kotileipomo bakery and delicacy shop, which is like the townsfolk living room. Here you can check out changing exhibitions of local artists, taste traditional pies and pastries from Kuhmo and Kainuu, and indulge in handmade tar gelato ice cream. Kuhmo’s café culture is especially lively in the summer when there is a wide selection of places to stop in, from a rustic coffee hut to a pie shop or an art café.

Bakeries

Kuhmo’s bakeries are rich in tradition and skill. Annikki Hyvärinen founded Hyvärinen Bakery in 1947 in a place called Vierelä on Kuhmo’s Torikatu. Now, 75 years later, the bakery continues the local baking heritage, offering a wide variety of delicious products. Kaesa’s Home Bakery (Kaesan Kotileipomo) also has deep roots in the region. In addition, Kuhmo is home to several skilled independent bakers whose pastries and cakes are perfect even for the most special occasions.
