Join the events and experience Kuhmo’s community spirit

There’s always something happening in Kuhmo, the city of culture. For its size, Kuhmo offers a remarkably rich cultural scene, including concerts in the world-class Kuhmo Arts Centre and community-driven events such as the much-anticipated Kuhmo Arts Night. This year, the event will once again bring live music and diverse performances all around Kuhmo on Friday, September 5th.

Also coming up are the Kuhmo Römppäviikot, held from October 24 to November 9, featuring highlights such as Musta Peura Stand-up (Oct 24–25) and Yona Duo (Oct 31). More details on both programs will be announced soon, but be sure to mark your calendar so you won’t miss them!

Immerse yourself in history and culture

Learn more about the Winter War and the region’s history at the Winter War Museum. You can also explore the battlefields yourself by car or on foot along the 100-kilometre Winter War Route. Did you know that Kuhmo is also a UNESCO City of Literature? Kuhmo is home to one of the world’s largest Kalevala collections. The Kalevala is also one of the rare examples of intangible cultural heritage to have been awarded the European Heritage Label. The recognition was granted to the Kalevala as a living epic that continues to inspire new scientific, artistic, and cultural interpretations.

The European Heritage Label highlights four different sites where you can explore the Kalevala from different perspectives and one of them is Juminkeko in Kuhmo, which is definitely worth a visit.
