Klemetti Memorial – Winter War Tour

In the battles of Kuhmo, 27 soldiers from Taivalkoski fell, most of whom served in the 3rd Company of the 1st Battalion of Infantry Regiment 25 (3rd Coy/1st Bn/Inf Regt 25). The company was commanded by Lieutenant Reino Karkama. The memorial to the soldiers from Taivalkoski who fell on the Kuhmo front during the Winter War is located about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 miles) east of Klemetti. Nineteen soldiers from Taivalkoski were killed in an ambush near the memorial on 4 February 1940. The memorial was designed by Tuomo

Horsma and implemented by the municipality, reservists and veterans’ organisations of Taivalkoski. The memorial was unveiled on 30 November 1997.

The site is easily accessible. The site and memorial are right by Road 9111, but there are no stopping or parking areas in their vicinity. The area of the Klemetti farm and its houses are private property.
