Kuivajärvi and Koukkeronhiekka
Introduction:
Kuivajärvi, located in the Vuosanka and Ylä-Vieksi region, is a lake with varying depths, dotted with peninsulas and islands. The lake area is pleasantly small, making it ideal for fishing by kayak or a small boat. It’s a great spot for jig fishing and trolling with a fly. You can also fish along the shoreline using small spinners and lures. For example, starting from Koukkerohiekka, it’s worth walking along the shore toward Koukkeronsalmi.
The waters are rich with large pike, perch, and bream. The lake lies between two rapids, so it’s also possible to catch trout, grayling, and whitefish. In the rapids, trout, grayling, and whitefish are stocked as juveniles. The population of lake fish is naturally strong.
When fishing along the shore, waterproof footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Koukkerohiekka is an excellent place for a family day trip: you can swim, have a picnic, and try traditional worm fishing. The site is located along a paddling route, making Koukkerohiekka a worthwhile stop.
