Ruunalammen Angling for rainbow trout

Location:

Kuumunkylä, Kuhmo, about 70 km from Kuhmo town center.

Ruunalampi is a natural, pristine pond where the local fishing cooperative regularly stocks rainbow trout. In addition to stocked fish, you can also catch large perch and pike, which occur naturally in the pond.

The site offers versatile fishing opportunities:
Spinning and fly fishing are both excellent options.
In winter, the pond is a great spot for ice fishing.

The surroundings are partly beautiful Kainuu marsh landscape, so waterproof shoes are recommended. The pond is located almost right next to the road, just behind a small ridge. The path down to the pond is fairly steep, and climbing back up requires some effort. In summer, you can also take a slightly longer but gentler route along an old access road leading to the lean-to shelter. This path starts from the main road on the right-hand side when viewed from the trail.

Permits and regulations

The fishing permit costs €15, which allows you to catch one rainbow trout. There is no limit on other fish species.

    The permit is valid for 24 hours starting from the time of purchase.

In addition, a valid national fisheries management fee must be paid.

Regulations (Kuumu Fishing Cooperative)

Only ice fishing and lure fishing are allowed. You may fish with two lines. Unauthorized fishing or fishing with forbidden methods is subject to a fine.

Fires are allowed at your own risk; during fire warnings, making a fire is strictly prohibited. The person making a fire is fully responsible for any damage caused.

Drive ~63 km from Kuhmo towards Lentiira (route 912) and continue straight, crossing Kostamus Road. Turn left onto Kuumu Road and drive about 5.7 km. On the right side of the road, there is a sign “RUUNA LAMPI” indicating parking. The pond is located on the left side behind a ridge.

Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible.
Facilities: Lean-to shelter, campfire spot, and outdoor toilet.
