Fri 24.10.- Sun 23.11. Joint exhibition of the Kuhmo Fine Arts Association and the Friends of Kuhmo Wind Music. The autumn theme of the Kuhmo Fine Arts Association has been wind music. The Friends of Kuhmo Wind Music have put together an exhibition of their activities, which is part of the association’s 50th anniversary events.

Sun 26.10. Grandma’s commune, at 2 pm, Kuhmo-talo / Kuhmo arts centre, Koulukatu1, €20 (program in finnish). A warm-hearted comedy. In Grandma’s commune, three mature siblings gather for their mother’s funeral and the tensions that have built up between the siblings over the decades come to light. When everyone still has their own big secret to hide, the ingredients for a play are in place. There is a suitable dose of big emotions and humor bubbling through a tangle of misunderstandings. Director and screenwriter of the play: Matti Halmetvaara (formerly Tampio), originally from Kuhmo.
Sun 26.10. A journey of life with the wings of music, Markku Uhlbäck (vocals) and Juho Kela (piano) at 6-7:15 pm, Kuhmo Church, Kirkkotie 11. The concert takes the listener on a journey of life from childhood to old age. The program leaflet costs €10, the concert proceeds go to the children and elderly work of the Kuhmo parish.

Wed 29.10. Helsinki Chamber Choir and Finnish Baroque Orchestra: France, Italy and Portugal – Baroque Latin, 7-8:30 pm. Kuhmo House, €29.90 / €20 / €15. Helsinki Chamber Choir and Finnish Baroque Orchestra on the stage of Lentua Hall in a wonderful joint concert! Baroque from Latin Europe is on offer, and through music the journey takes you to Italy, France and Portugal. 17th-century composers Antonia Bembo and Jean-Baptiste Lully were born in Italy less than a decade apart. Both built their careers in France with the support of Louis XIV. Their slightly older contemporary Isabella Leonarda, on the other hand, spent her entire life in her birthplace of Novara, Italy, joining a convent at the age of 16. All three were respected musicians in their own circles.
Thu 30.10. Sisu 2 -movie, at 6:00 PM, Pajakkakino. Sisu 2 is a full-on action film that is a sequel to the first part Sisu, which has become an international hit. Aatami Korpi, “a man who refuses to die” (Jorma Tommila) returns to his hometown in Soviet-occupied Karelia, dismantles his house, loads it onto a truck and firmly decides to set up his pirtti again on the Finnish side.
Fri 31.10. YONA DUO, 7-8:15 p.m. Kuhmo House, €32 / children and students €22 in advance. All €32 at the door (incl. coat). Yona (Johanna Rasmus), who has had a significant and artistically ambitious career, released her new album ‘Eden’ on September 20. Yona is known for her open-minded and unique way of combining different musical genres in her own music, and her songs are characterized by a personal touch, strong emotional resonance and cinematic proportions. Yona will perform an intimate duo gig with guitarist Juhani Grönroos.

at 3:30 PM The Peasants -movie. Based on Władysław Reymont’s Nobel Prize-winning peasant epic, the film tells the story of Jagna, a young woman who wants to walk her own path. The visually striking film, consisting of individual oil paintings, is from the creators of the award-winning Loving Vincent and has been selected as Poland’s Oscar nominee for 2024.

Sun 2.11. Valon Odotus -concert, Kuhmo-talo / Kuhmo Arts Centre, €15 / Under 15s free. The Friends of Kuhmo Wind Orchestra will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a concert. All former and current members of the Kuhmo Wind Orchestra, Tornado and Pihhaus have been invited to play at Valon Odotus -concert. The festive orchestra will be conducted by Mikko Iskanius.
Mon 3.11. Leikki ja Loikka “Play and Jump” – Children’s Römppä -event at 5-7 pm, a children’s event for the whole family, Kuhmo-talo / Kuhmo Arts Centre, Free admission. Come play, move and experience experiences – there’s something for every child! There will be face painting, tattoo stickers, building and crafting wind instruments, a sugar bomb task, physical activities together, a Kalevala hero adventure, and a free music festival and children’s concert! Welcome!

Thu 6.11. Rekenä ja kelekkana? – associations in the spotlight (program in finnish), 6 pm, Kuhmo-talo, a free event open to everyone. Associations are important creators of shared well-being, but does the Kuhmo proverb “is it soanu to be so srekänä ja kelekkanna” describe association activities? Come and see how the activities of associations are transformed into various performances! Actress and theatre director Sari Siikander will host an evening where associations are together in the spotlight and on display.
Before the evening programme, a workshop aimed at associations led by Sari Siikander will be organised at the Kuhmo-talo from 2 pm to 4 pm.

SAT 8.11. Kuhmolaisen Tanssin Ilta – Kuhmo Dance Evening 2-4 pm (incl. intermission). Kuhmo-talo / Kuhmo Arts Centre, €13 / €7. Kuhmo Dance Evening brings an exceptional range of performances by dance enthusiasts from Kuhmo and this year also from other parts of Kainuu to the daytime show. The guests will be the Star Dancers of Kajaani Casamba, who will present standard and Latin dances, meaning there will be amazing competitive dance performances! In addition, Kajaani Dance will bring an energetic and fast-paced street dance group of 10 dancers, who will conquer the stage with the rhythm of the music and the interaction of the dancers. The attitude and community of street dance convinces the audience and the expression of the dancers from Sotkamo will not leave anyone indifferent. The dance groups from the Kuhmo Music Institute will bring performances by new dance teachers to the show, meaning completely new dance styles will be presented. Wonderful, large groups from Keiketyks and Lavatanssijoti add versatility and variety to the show. There will be performances from both young and old.
