Sports facilities
Kuhmo offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports venues that support an active lifestyle all year round. Try frisbee golf or test your fitness on the Mammankaivo fitness stairs. In addition, the area has gyms, a swimming hall, and other indoor sports facilities suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Outdoor Activities
Frisbee Golf
There are three frisbee golf courses:
Kalevala Sports Center Course
Located in the scenic Tönölä ridge area of Kalevala Sports Center, this 18-hole frisbee golf course is about 4 km from Kuhmo city center at Väinämöinen 10.
The challenging course features, among other things, three throws over ponds and hilly terrain. The course is approximately 3 kilometers long. The starting point is the parking area next to Kelo (a brown Kelo building is on the right side of the road before Kalevala Sports Center, and the parking area is across the road). The course ends behind Pohjola House and returns to Kelo.
Mammankaivo Course
This 12-hole course is located behind the Hankaranta playground (access via parking area at Kainuuntie 19). It is about 1 km from Kuhmo city center.
Practice Course
Situated in the sports center (Martinpolku 4), this is a 3-hole practice course.
Mini Golf
A 6-hole mini golf course is available in the courtyard area of Hyvinvointi Sampo. Equipment rental is available at Info – Hyvinvointi Sampo.
Tennis Courts and Floorball
At the outdoor sports arena of the Sports Center (Martinpolku 4), there are two tennis courts. You can book a court independently for a maximum of 2 hours per session.
Floorball sessions can be booked via an electronic form available on the city’s website.
Badminton and Basketball
You can independently book a slot for the beach volleyball court at the Sports Center (Martinpolku 4), located next to the ice rink under a shelter near the ticket office in the blue binder.
The outdoor sports arena at the Sports Center offers facilities for floorball, basketball, and handball.
Two beach volleyball courts were renovated in 2023 at Kalevala Sports Center (4 km from the city center, Väinämöinen 4). Priority for bookings goes to sports clubs, but the courts are free to use outside booked times.
Football
The Sports Center (Martinpolku 4) has a football field with artificial turf. Booking information is available via a provided link. The field is freely available at other times.
Fitness Stairs
The city’s free-to-use fitness stairs are located in the Mammankaivo area at Kainuuntie 21.
Indoor Activities
Floorball
During the winter season, floorball can be played in school gyms. Temporary or regular time slots can be applied for to use the sports halls during available times.
Volleyball and Basketball
Volleyball and basketball can be played during winter in the gyms at Rajakatu, Oppimiskeskus, and Tuupala Wood School. Temporary bookings for available time slots can be made. Available times can be found in Kuhmon citys Website.
Football (Futsal)
Futsal can be played during winter in the gyms at Oppimiskeskus and Tuupala Wood School.
Single available time slots can be purchased from the online store or by contacting customer service at phone number 08 6155521. Hall bookings must be made at least two hours before the slot begins.
Badminton Courts
There are a total of 3 badminton courts available during winter at Rajakatu 52. Single available time slots can be purchased from the online store or by contacting customer service at 08 6155521. Hall bookings must be made at least two hours before the slot begins.
