Lentuanrapids and Lentua (Lentuankoksi)
Lentuankoski and Lake Lentua are Kuhmo’s best-known and most popular natural attractions, located about 15 km from the town center (follow the signs from the Kuhmo–Suomussalmi road, then drive about 3 km along Lentuankoskentie and turn right). The nature around Lentua offers an unforgettable experience and a striking setting for photography, no matter the time of day or season. The lake features wide open waters, sheltered island labyrinths, rugged rocky shores, and golden sandy beaches.
Maps and further information available.
Lentuankoski consists of two sections: Iso Lentuankoski and Pikku Lentuankoski, with a total rapid length of approximately 1,200 meters. From Lake Lentua, the rapids form a water route toward Lake Lammasjärvi and Kuhmo’s town center.
Bridges and boardwalks built on stone piers make it easier to walk alongside the rapids. There is also accessible access to the riverbank and a footbridge crossing the head of Iso Lentuankoski.
The rapids are a popular spot among anglers. Detailed fishing information can be found at the Kalalla Kainuussa website.
The parking area is located close to the shore. On the right, you’ll see the pristine waterscape of Lake Lentua—parts of which are designated as a nature reserve, making it an excellent destination for water excursions. On the left, you can already hear and see the rushing rapids. The lake is best explored by canoe or boat, with a boat launch area located next to the parking lot.

The islands of Lake Lentua feature maintained campfire sites and lean-to shelters for paddlers and boaters, as well as a wilderness hut on Lehtosaari Island.
A large lakeside kota (Lapp hut) is available for rent. It accommodates up to 20 people and is intended for daytime use only. For additional information and reservations, please refer to the provided contact or booking details in the link below.
